- We have the push rods working, but we don't have the cams attached to the crankshaft. So you can see that when I rotate that cam, it pushes up that push rod just the way that we want. But I need to connect the rotation of this crankshaft to the cams. So the first thought is that well maybe we can set this up in the Outliner and just do a hierarchy. So I can go into my CamRodsSprings group, take that cam and drag it over the crankshaft. Well this isn't going to work because what's happening here, you can see here that this doesn't work. The reason is that the crankshaft is what is rotating. This is just following along. It's not rotating relative to the crankshaft. So just a simple hierarchy isn't going to work. So I'm going to go ahead and take that out of that hierarchy. The easier way to do this is we can set this up either through the connection editor or through an expression.
