Setting up file output options for AOVs
For the greatest degree of control over our delivered rendered image, we can separate the various rendered components such as diffuse and specular out to individual render passes, and save them as separate files. Then we can take those files into a compositing or post-production application such as After Effects and we can layer them and control their brightness and exposure and also add effects to those individual components. To do this, we'll want to make use of the Arnold render pass system, which is called AOVs, or arbitrary output variables. I've currently got the Arnold renderer active in the camera view, so I'm just going to switch that renderer back to Viewport 2.0. And the first step for setting up AOVs is to properly define our file output options.
