UV basics in Maya

- [Instructor] So, before we can start texturing, we are gonna have to take a little technical turn and understand what UV's are. If you are like me, as an early CG artist, I had really no idea what these things were, or how they worked, or how they actually applied textures to my objects. So, let's start here and take a look at these particular objects and how the UV's are affecting the texture that's being applied to them. So, you can see with this particular sphere that we have this checker pattern that's going across it. And over here in the UV editor, we have this representation of this sphere, but it's flat. Well, that's actually what UV's are. They are a two-dimensional coordinate system for a three-dimensional object. Now, what does that mean? I don't know. I had a really hard time really early on figuring this out.
