- If you are a premium member of lynda.com, you have access to the exercise files used throughout this title. In the exercise files folder, you'll find three subfolders. Chapter Two contains the Adobe Illustrator files we'll be using. As well as a symbol file of city elements. The ProtoCity folder is actually a working Maya project. In here, we'll see the standard Maya directories for things like images, for rendered imagery, source images for textures, and seams for scenes. In the scenes directory, there are chapter folders for three, four, and five.
In those, in Chapter Four we've also got folders for buildings, street fixtures, and trees. And these are complete models I've provided for use in this chapter. Lastly, in the exercise files is a reference folder. In here, are number of different reference photos in around Seattle. We've got a collection of panoramas I've stitched together of various buildings. As well as some street shots, to be able to see the character of the city. There's also a couple of street view panoramas. So we can really get in and assess what's going on before we start to plan our city out.
I'll be using Adobe Illustrator to plan out the city because it provides a very quick way to get in and move things around without working in a heavy 3D scene. We can also work in symbols and that way we get some response in changing one object and seeing it ripple across multiple places. We'll be using AutoDesk Maya for the 3D portion of this course. Make sure when you're in Maya to set your project choosing file and set project. Browse in the exercise files to the ProtoCity folder double-click on it and then click set.
Then open up the first scene. This will ensure that Maya can find all the relevant textures. We'll be using the foundries nuke for the compositing section. Although you could do this just as well in any compositing applications such as After Effects or Fusion. It's really a proof of concept and as long as we can see the rendering, we're in good shape. If you are a monthly member or annual member of lynda.com, you don't have access to the exercise files. You can follow along from scratch with your own assets.
