Welcome

- [Andy] So you've created some amazing models in Maya but you seem to be having some trouble achieving that professional look that you want in your final renders. Chances are that you're not telling your model's story. As a 3D artist your job is to always tell a story. We'll start by learning to interview our objects and to be come a bit of a forensic scientist with why the objects look the way they look. Then once we understand what our model's visual story is we'll look into image manipulation techniques and Photoshop for 3D textures. We'll then go from painting textures in Photoshop to painting directly on your 3D models in Autodesk Mudbox which is a freeing experience knowing exactly what your textures will look like on your model in real time. We'll also look at texturing techniques in Substance Painter, a new industry standard texturing program that utilizes procedural textures that automate much of the work for you. As a texture artist working in Substance you'll work more like a director telling Substance Painter where to put your details and how to work for you. My hope is you'll see that having a solid workflow for texturing will translate to you having the confidence in being able to texture any model that you'll create in the future.
