The Bin Map

- [Tutor] There's another bin feature that deserves a special mention and it's called the bin map. Right now I'm in the frame view in this rock climber clips bin and you can see as I scroll down, there is quite a few clips available. There's some audio down there as well. If I click on the first menu, here, at the top right corner of the bin window, there's an option to show bin map and this gives me a mini view of the entire contents of the bin. Just to illustrate how useful this is, I'm going to resize the bin a little bit more, fill the screen a little bit and let's say I start working on this and I realized that I think I'm going to work with these clips and maybe this one, I'm just pulling a few clips into, kind of a pile at one side of the bin. And I haven't decided yet exactly what I'm going to do with these, but I think I might use them in a sequence, I haven't really decided but I think I like these clips in particular. But if you look at the navigator, you get this mini view that you can use to quickly, jump to different areas of the bin and it's really helpful when you've got different areas of the bin that you're using for organization in this way. You don't have to keep the clips all in a big stack like this, you can move them around and reposition them however you like. To just make this a little bit narrower and as I do, you can see that black outline, which is the current field of view, shrinks along with the bin window. I can drag this around wherever I want, this is really slick and easy to use. Now that I've moved these clips to different locations in the bin and these positions are persistent, it's worth noting that there's a little asterisk next to the bin name rock climber clips, you can see that little star and that indicates that changes have been made to the bin since it was last saved. This is pretty common in software today. If I press Ctrl-S here on Windows or command S on Mac OS, this bin will be saved and, if I close and reopen the bin, it's going to appear the same way. One issue with the bin map feature is that it kind of does get in the way a little bit. I can't actually see these clips at the top right corner because the bin map is in the way. So I'm going to click on the first menu and I'm going to choose hide bin map.
