J-cuts and L-cuts

- [Narrator] Most of the time when you're trimming, you've going to be changing the beginning or end of a clip either because of the content or to adjust the timing of the rhythm of the scene. But there's another use for trimming. That's a classic editing technique to blend one moment into the next, and it's called a J-cut or an L-cut. And you'll see why it's called that in a moment. It's pretty clear. I've got two shots in this sequence that are quite different locations, although they are connected. We want to work on the audio for one of them, but it illustrates this point quite nicely. I'll move my play head back a little and let's just listen to the cut. - I see it there boss. - Back it up boys. - Huh? - He doesn't want it. - [Narrator] Well, we're going to look at a way to blend from one scene to the next.
