Monitoring audio levels

- [Narrator] Now let's review the controls available in the audio tool. While we're looking at this tool, I'm going to switch on all of the waveforms in the timeline window. I'm doing this by holding the alt key here in Windows. That's the option key on Mac OS, so I can just click once to toggle them all on. I'll just press play for a moment so we can see the level appearing in this audio tool. - Oh! - Geez, so- - [Narrator] That was pretty dramatic. On the left side of the audio tool we're getting a digital display. You'll notice that the top of the display is set to zero DB. On the right side we're getting a VU meter, a volume unit scale which is, well, it's technically a digital system but this is an analog scale, and you'll notice that the line levels are different. We've got zero DB on the VU scale next to minus 20 DB on the digital scale on the left, and this is pretty normal because you absolutely cannot…
