What you should know before watching

- [Instructor] If you have completed my Avid beginner skills course, you should be absolutely ready to begin this one, but if you're coming to this fresh, there are some things that you should know before you begin, otherwise you might miss a couple of the techniques that we're covering. The first is that you should have a basic grasp of video technology in general. You should know about time code, frame sizes, frame rates, video formats, and so on. You'll also need to have a basic knowledge of Avid Media Composer, and I'll get into the detail of that in a moment. You should have an overall understanding of the arc of the post production workflow from the time the media arrives to the time you hand off a finished file. You should know about organizing projects. You should know about the creative process, and it's important that you understand that there are some decisions you'll make that are technical, and some that are creative, and it's important that you've got enough experience of testing your editing skills to get a sense of when you'll be making a judgment call, and how the technology can help you with that process. In terms of understanding Media Composer, you should by now know how to import media, get stuff into the system, both by linking and by ingesting, and you should know how to edit the clips that are created when you import into sequences. So, you'll need to know how to make a sequence, how to put clips in, move them around, and take them out again. You should also by now know how to add effects to clips, get access to the settings for those clips so you can change them, and remove them, even if you're not necessarily familiar with all of the effects available and what they can do, and finally you should already know how to output your finished work to a file. In this course, we're going to explore alternative ways of sharing your creative work, but you should know how to export, at least. With these basic skills in place, you should be absolutely fine to explore this deeper dive into Avid Media Composer.
