What you need to know

- You don't need any prior experience with 3D scanning for this project course, but you will need some equipment. I'll be using a Carmine sensor, but any of these models and brands will work just fine. These sensors range from about $100 to $400. There are some additional challenges when working with the Kinects. They require additional drivers, have lower resolution and don't work cross platform. So, if you're looking to make a purchase keep that in mind. Now, if you want more information on 3D printing and 3D scanning check out my course, Up and Running with 3D Printing to gain more knowledge in this field either before or after watching this course. In the final steps of this course we'll use a 3D printer to reproduce the 3D scan. I'll go through two options for printing. For the first you'll need access to a desktop filament-based 3D printer, like a MakerBot, Printrbot or any other brand. To complete this part of the course you should have experience using this type of printer, but if you need more help look to my course, Getting Started with MakerBot for more detailed instruction. Now if you don't have access to a desktop printer you can choose to print with a 3D printing service, like Shapeways, instead. So, that's all you need to know. Now let's dive in.
