Smoothing a mesh in Metashape

- [Instructor] In this video, we'll take a look at smoothing a mesh in Metashape, and this is a useful step in your photogrammetry workflow for removing some of the noise or chatter in a model that can come from the photogrammetry process, as well as noise from poorly photographed images. And we can see some of that right here in the example file, sample-set-05-mesh-edit-filled.psx, which you can find in the exercise folder, sample-set-05-mesh-edit. So looking at the surface here, you can see it's not quite smooth. There's lots of little bumps and variations to some degree, and that surface quality is almost always, at least somewhat, a result of the photogrammetry process. It's almost never going to come out perfectly smooth. So, this smoothing operation can help to alleviate some of that effect. Let's go ahead up to the Tools menu, under Mesh, and click on Smooth Mesh. Now here, we have some options. We can specify a…
