- [Instructor] Now let's look at the coordinates tab. Using the coordinates tab, I can control the default settings for the compass coordinate's system, units, and indexing values. The rotation setting defines the default value for the compass drawing plane. This can be defined to any of the plane's shortcuts discussed earlier, such as T for top, S for side, F for front, and V for view. If I worked primarily in a 3-D file, I would want this to be set to the top plane by default, not the view plane. Use the context setting to allow the default plane to be controlled manually, or by the active command. The type setting controls what type of compass is displayed by default. I prefer the setting to be set to polar, as I demonstrated earlier in this course, since I tend to use distance and angle values for precision input more often than X, Y, and Z coordinates.
