Using the Extend Elements command

- Next, let's look at the Extend Element command. This command allows me to extend the line by selecting one end or the other. And it just lengthens the line according to a distance I key in, or where I issue a data point. When I select the line, the compass is automatically applied at the opposite end of the line, so I can key in a total length. If I wanted this line to be exactly 100 feet, I can type in 100 and issue a left mouse-click to accept. I would have extended it 100 feet from the compass location. If I turn on the "from end" option in the tool settings dialog, then I can select the line and the AccuDraw compass will stay at the selected end and allow me to extend the line by a specific distance. I will key in a distance of 25 feet to make the line 25 feet longer, and you can do that on either end. I can also just key in the distance using the tool settings dialog, but I prefer using AccuDraw. It's so much easier. You can also add negative distance values to shorten the line.
