From the course: Migrating from AutoCAD to MicroStation

Using the exercise files

- If you are a premium member of LinkedIn Learning, you have access to the exercise files used throughout this course. The exercise files are in a folder called Exercise Files, and for this demonstration have been placed in a folder on my desktop. You can place them wherever you want in your own system, however, you will need to edit the micro station for AutoCAD V8I intro configuration file delivered with the exercise files. Let me show you what I am talking about. I will open the folder Exercise Files located on my desktop, and you'll see the folder Micro Station for AutoCAD V8I Intro. I will open that folder and locate the .ucf file. This file must be copied into your micro station installation folder in order for the course files to work properly. So I will right click and copy this file to the clipboard. I've provided a shortcut to take you right where you need to put this file unless you have installed your micro station in a non-standard location. If you did install your micro station in a standard location just double click on this shortcut and paste the .ucf file here. This configuration file defines how micro station knows where to look for the various resources used throughout this course. The correct user workspace configuration must be selected when working with the exercise files. Let me demonstrate how to select the user workspace configuration file. First, start up your micro station application. When the file open dialogue displays, locate the workspace settings for user project and interface located in the lower right corner. Using the user drop down list, select the micro station for AutoCAD V8I intro user. This will automatically navigate the dialogue to the design files location for this course. There are three folders included with the course files. The clean folder contains a clean copy of the design files for your use when you have made changes to the files found in the default VGN folder. The completed folder contains incrementally completed design files used throughout the course. This allows you to skip to a specific course video and complete as needed. The refs folder contains the reference files used throughout this course. Now you're ready to work with the delivered exercise files. You'll find a collection of files in the DGN folder that relates back to each video. Open the files when instructed to do so, and follow along with the demonstration. If you're not a premium member of LinkedIn Learning, you won't have access to the exercise files, but you can still follow along with your own micro station files. So let's get started and learn how you can get more proficient using micro station, and how you can transition your AutoCAD skills to this new environment.
