Using multi-snaps

- Continue using the file for Chapter Two, Using AccuSnap.dgn. Using View Groups, select the Multi-Snap model. There are three Multi-Snaps available in microstation. Before I can use the Multi-Snap capability, I need to define which Snaps are active for each one. Using the status bar, select the Multi-Snaps command. This opens the Multi-Snap configuration dialogue, where I can define more than one Snap Mode active at once. If you notice, there are three buttons located at the top of this dialogue. Each button can be configured to use different combinations of Snap modes. For Multi-Snap One, I will select the first button, and turn on Intersection and Keypoint. For Multi-Snap Two, I will select the second button, and turn on Origin, Keypoint, and Center. For Multi-Snap Three, I will select Midpoint, Center, and Origin. Once these Multi-Snaps have been configured, I can close this dialogue. Now, I need to set one of the three Multi-Snaps as my default Snap Mode. Using the Status bar again, I will left-click on the Snap icon, and hold down the Shift key to select Multi-Snap One as my active Snap Mode. The Shift key makes this Snap choice the running Snap Mode. Remember, if I select it without holding down the Shift key, it will be a single-shot Snap, and the default Snap will revert back to Keypoint when I'm finished. Using the Task navigation dialogue, I will select the Line command, and snap to the elements displayed under the Multi-Snap One area. When I hover over the existing elements, I can see that I have access to both Intersection, and Keypoint Snap locations. Using the Status bar again, I will left-click on the Snap icon and hold down the Shift key, to select Multi-Snap Two as my default Snap mode. Again, using the Line command, I will snap to the elements displayed under the Multi-Snap Two area. When I hover over the existing elements, now I can see that I have access to Origin, Keypoint, and Center snap locations. Here's a tip: If you are using both Intersection and Keypoint snaps with the Multi-Snap One Snap Mode, you may experience situations where the Intersection Snap Point displays when you really want the Keypoint Snap Location. I can control which of these Snap Modes has priority using the Multi-Snap Configuration dialogue. Using the Status bar, left-click on the Snap icon, and select Multi-Snaps to open the configuration dialogue. If I want Keypoint to have priority over any Intersection Snap Points, I can drag Keypoint to the top of the list. Now, when snapping to multiple elements, Keypoint will display before Intersection, if they are in close proximity. Pretty cool, right? The next chapter will demonstrate how to use AccuDraw in a simple 2-D environment.
