Tips for saving time when typing function names

- [Instructor] If you write formulas that deal with function names a lot, you know that at times it can get a little tedious. You can save some time by recognizing that certain functions have a unique two letter or a three litter beginning. I'm about to use in column J over here, a function called X lookup. It's a relatively new function in Excel. And by the way, it's destined to replace both V lookup and H lookup in the long run. I'm going to be using it here in cell J2. I'm going to look up the name of each employee here over in column A. And then pick up the corresponding hire date out of column D. So I'm about to type = X look up. But instead = X L and won't type the rest of it, I'll press tab. There's no other function that begins with XL. I'll press tab. There it is. And the more I use that function, and I do use it a lot, I just do = XL tab, and we're there. And I'm going to take Michael Adkins name here out of cell K2, look over in column A, I'll click that.
