Using slicers as analytical tools

- One of Excel's best data management tools 2 is what we call a filter, 3 and starting in Excel 2013, 4 Microsoft has now made available to us 5 a feature called a slicer. 6 And it's easy to use, 7 and it's like an extension of filtering, 8 and it also from time to time 9 can provide some analysis 10 that might even be unintended. 11 In this worksheet, 12 this is a table. 13 Slicers have been set up already 14 for Department, Benefits, Job Rating. 15 And a quick reminder here, 16 I'm going to switch to the other worksheet momentarily, 17 this data here is not a table. 18 You cannot work with a slicer 19 unless the data is a table. 20 And once you've figured out that this data has 21 no empty rows or empty columns within it, 22 you can convert it to a table. 23 If you have not done that or used that feature yet, 24 I strongly recommend it. 25 We can do it easily with Ctrl+T. 26 I'll click OK after making sure…
