Customize class settings

- [Instructor] Once you have a class created, I recommend customizing the class settings. Earlier, we took a look at how to customize your account settings, but in this case, I'm referring to the settings for a specific class. Let's take a look at how to do this. Earlier, I created my Biology 101 course, and over here on the left-hand side, I can see it. Now I'm going to go over to the three dots icon to the right of it, and from here, select managed team. Here's where I can manage my team including the members, pending requests, and so on. One of the tabs here is for settings, and this is a tab that I recommend you spend some time taking a look at, customize this for your situation. Now some of the options here, you can change the team theme or the image that goes along with your team. You can change member permissions, and this is one that I think is very important. Do you want to allow members to create and update channels? Do you want to allow members to delete and restore channels? Do you want them to add apps? Do you want them to be able to delete their messages or edit their messages? So you'll have to make decisions depending on your situation and how much you trust the other people in that team. Below this is guest permissions. Next is at mentions, and this is for deciding who can use at team or at channel mentions. Next is team code, and this is a code you can get to invite members to the class. This is something we'll talk about in the adding students video. Below this is fun stuff. So whether or not you want to allow gifs, stickers, emojis, things like that. I do think it's a good idea to include some of these to add some personality to your class, but obviously, if students are abusing them or not using them correctly, it's something that you can always go in and turn off. Below this, we have the OneNote Class Notebook where you can sync that, as well as tags, and you can decide who has the ability to manage tags. So take the time to customize these class settings before your course begins. It will help improve the learning experience and likely save you some frustration down the road.
