Types of styles

- [Instructor] There are five types of styles in Microsoft Word and how we work with a style depends on what type of style it is. Character styles are applied to selected text. So if I wanted, for example, to have some text that is styled using the strong style, the first thing I'll do is select the text, then I'll apply the style. Paragraph styles aren't quite as picky. If you have a paragraph or paragraph selected then the style will be applied when you choose it. However, if you don't have any text selected and have the insertion point sitting somewhere in a paragraph, when you apply a paragraph style it will be applied to that entire paragraph. There's another difference between character styles and paragraph styles. Character styles use the commands that are accessible here in the font group and in the font dialog box.
