- If you're looking for an easy way to conduct one-on-one meetings with students, perhaps virtual office hours, or even group conference calls for your class, consider using the Skype activity. Skype is a free online tool that allows people to communicate via text chat, or voice, or video calling. You'll need to load Skype on at least one device and create a Skype account to get started. In addition to the application from Mac and Windows desktop and laptop machines, Skype has apps for a variety of smartphones and tablets. First, "Turn editing on" in the top right corner. Then, scroll to the Moodle section where you want the Skype activity. If you're using it for virtual office hours, then use topic area 0. Click the "Add an activity or resource" link, and select "Skype" from the list of activities. Last, click the "Add" button at the bottom.
