Setting up FTP
- [Instructor] FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and it's the most common tool or protocol for copying files from your local computer to your web server. There are two primary flavors of FTP. Secure and non-secure FTP. Secure FTP or SFTP automatically encrypts the data that's sent between your computer and your web server. Regular or non-secure FTP refer to simply as FTP, transmits all of the data between your computer and your web server as a clear or unencrypted stream of data. If possible, you should always use the SFTP protocol to protect your data and your personal credentials during transfer. Now I keep mentioning the term protocol when referring to FTP. And that's because FTP is a service or program much like your web server running on your web host, whose sole job is to handle the transferring of files from one location on the Internet to another.
