What's new in Moodle 3.9?

- [Narrator] Let's take a look at some of the new features that are available with the release of Moodle 3.9. First, my favorite update is the new Activity and Resource Picker. So here from within a course, I'll click on Add an Activity or Resource and this brings up the new Activity Picker. So from here, I can see all of my options or I can narrow it down to activities, resources or utilize the new columns Starred, where I can access ones that I use a lot. Now, I really like this new Picker. I think it looks sharp and you have everything here. You have the descriptions of the activities as well as suggestions and more. Now, another major update is the improved integration of H5P content which is Moodle's html5 package, allowing you to create more interactive content within your courses. In Moodle 3.9, when used as activities, H5P content can now be graded and entered into the grade book automatically. It can be added as its own activity or added to other resources using the text editor. In each of your courses, you now have a content bank on the left navigation bar. I'll scroll down here and click on Content Bank. From inside of here, H5P content can be created, stored and edited. Now another new feature in Moodle 3.9 is the Safe Exam Browser, which allows you to deliver assessments to students in a more secure, online setting. I'm going to go here and click on, Add an Activity or Resource and I want to create a quiz. I'll go down to Quiz. Now, when I scroll down, you'll see that one of my options here is the Safe Exam Browser. And I can click here and decide how I want to configure that. Now, when students use the Safe Exam Browser, they'll be limited on what they can do during the assessment. They won't have access to a URL or search bar. They aren't able to navigate away from the browser unless you allow them to. And they can't close the browser until the assessment is submitted. Moodle 3.9 also comes with improved accessibility, improve participant filters and many other updates. For a look at all the updates for Moodle 3.9, check out the New Features page on moodle.org.
