Using the exercise files

- [Voiceover] If you have access to the exercise files, you'll definitely want to pay attention to this movie, because I'm going to show you how things are organized, and how you should be moving these files around, should you need to move them around. Now, if you don't have access to the exercise files, I encourage you to just watch the videos, and you can follow along with your own footage. Alright, so once you've actually downloaded the exercise files to your computer, I recommend, if you need to move them to a different drive, move them all at once, with just this one folder. Don't open up the folder and then start moving all this stuff around. Move everything all at once, self-contained in the exercise files folder. Now, you'll notice that I have Ch 01 through 08. These correspond to the chapters in the course. Now, just because I have a folder that says, you know, Ch 05, there may not necessarily be a video file for each individual exercise within that chapter. So, if you don't see one that pertains specifically to the video that you're watching, don't worry about it, I'll address where it is in the video. Now, on occasion, you may open a file and it may be disconnected, which, I know, we're just getting started and you may not know what this term means. But, basically, let me show you. If I open up this file, right here, which is the 02 03 animating type file. See this checkerboard? That means that there is footage missing. And I know we haven't gone over the interface yet, but I'm just going to show you really quickly how to reconnect media, just in case, okay? So if you notice, in the interface, I have the layers panel, and I have this thing called the media panel. And in here, notice there's a question mark, for this one file. So I want to click on that, just to select it, and then the left side of the interface over here, this is called the utility window. The section under the inspector is where you want to go. In the inspector, in the media tab, down here, there's a button to reconnect a media file. So, if you go ahead and click that, I want you to navigate to your exercise files. Any referenced media for any of these exercise files will be in the media folder. Now, as I'm looking at the file, I can see, the name of it is background copy. So here, I'm going to go to the video folder, and, sure enough, there's my background movie. So, when I click open, it's automatically going to add that back into my project, and now I've successfully re-linked the media. Okay, now there's one last thing I want to tell you about the exercise files. You may notice this folder, down here at the bottom. This is called the Reference Finished Projects folder. And, in here, I have four Motion projects. Now, since this course is kind of fast, we're not going over every single tool and option required to build each scenario. I'm giving you the essential tools you need to be familiar with. But, once you get familiar with how everything works, if you want to tear apart and reverse engineer some completed projects, that's what these are. So, I highly encourage you, after you go through the course, to go back into this folder and open up each one of these projects, and see how things were built. I've found reverse engineering to be one of the fastest ways I've learned any application.
