- [Voiceover] Hello, and welcome to this week's edition of Building Your Technology Skills. My name is Martin Guidry, and this week we're going to be talking about DHCP. DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. It's used to automatically assign IP addresses to workstations, servers, and other devices that connect to our network. In addition to an IP address, DHCP will also assign a subnet mask, and optionally it can assign other features such as a DNS server. DHCP servers use a grouping of configurations called a scope. Each scope contains a pool of IP addresses, leases, reservations, and options, and we're gonna spend a little bit of time talking about each one of these. First, the pool of IP addresses. This is a list of all the IP addresses in the scope. It is a continuous range of IP addresses, so for example, it could go from 10.1.1.100 to 10.1.1.200. That range would contain the 100 addresses that are continuous between 10.1.1.100 and 10.1.1.200. These addresses are…
