- [Voiceover] The photo gear that you take on any trip will depend on the type of photography that you want to do. Camera choice is really a personal preference, and it also may be determined by what you already have, or what you're willing to purchase or rent before the trip. Some types of photography, such as night photography and auroras may require specific type of gear. The important thing is to bring a camera or cameras that will let you make the type of images that you want to make, and also that you are familiar with and comfortable using. I shoot with both an iPhone in Iceland, for casual shots and quick time lapses, as well as full frame DSLR's, where I have full control over all the settings, and can also use for video. And sometimes, I even break out the old school technology and set up my wooden pinhole camera. One of the main things that can affect how an image looks is the focal length of the lens.
