- [Instructor] To get us started taking a look at NoSql, let's consider this quote from Craig Mundie, "data are becoming the new raw material of business." The most important part of this is the word are. Multiple types of data. And it's really for this reason that the NoSql movement and set of databases was born. To start, we need to see where we came from, and what is the state of data today. So when we think about managing data, we of course think about data as files on file systems. We think about data as tables. It's more specifically relational tables in relational database systems, such as SQL Server, Oracle, or open source systems like MySQL. The data in the tables is in commercial such as Oracle or open source, RDBMs or relational database management systems. Data these days is also in data warehouses.
