- [Steve] Hi, this is Steve Wright welcoming you to this week's Nuke Nugget, how to get more out of your lumakeys. Lumakeys are a staple of visual effects, so the better you are at pulling a lumakey the better compositor you'll be. Here we'll look at several techniques that you can use to squeeze more key out of your luminance. So let's push in here and we're going to start by just pulling a straight key on the original image. Now there's two things about this image I'd like to point out. One, it's got grain and noise in it. And two, if I rehome the Viewer, it is not uniform from top to bottom. It's darker and more saturated here, brighter and less saturated down here, which is normal for a sky plate. But let's see what happens. So we'll open up our Keyer node, which we got over here on the keying tab, and there is Mister Keyer. By default he comes up lumakey. We hook our Viewer to Keyer node, switch to the alpha channel, and you can see our grain in there. Okay, rehome the Viewer…
