The Keyer node

We'll start the discussion about keyers, with Nukes keyer node. Its sort of a Swiss army knife collection of simple keyers, and its where the all important luma keyer is found. To find a Keyer node, I'll select the Ramp node, come up to the Keyer tab, and select the Keyer node. The first thing to know about the Keyer node is by default, it puts its output in the alpha channel. Of course, you can change that if you want to. So I'm going to switch the viewer to the alpha channel, so we can see our key. The Keyer node has this unique trapezoidal curve. Let me show you how that works. Put that back where it was, the intent is to allow you to easily isolate some mid gray. Not just the darks or the lights, but any middle gray you want. Let's take a very simple example, this is a very simple gradient here. And .5 is right about here in the middle. So lets say I'd like to isolate a grey of .5 and turn it up to 1.0 white. I'll grab the bead bar, and I'm going to set that for .45 because I want…
