OneDrive

- [Instructor] OneDrive is your file system in the Office 365 cloud, which means that you can access your files from anywhere on almost any device. You can also install the OneDrive sync client to keep your local files synchronized with your Office 365 OneDrive account. Let's go ahead and explore OneDrive in a little bit more detail. I'm going to to launch the online version of OneDrive from the Office 365 portal and we're presented with a very familiar list of files and folders. Now, let's compare this to our files and folders on the local system. And to make things a little easier, I'm going to rearrange these windows. As you can clearly see, we have the same structure on our local system as we do in OneDrive. Let's make a few changes to our local OneDrive account. I'm simply going to add a new folder, then I'm going to call it Marketing. And you'll notice after a few moments, Marketing shows up in our cloud version of OneDrive. And the same holds true when I create a folder or a document in my OneDrive in Office 365. And we can see Sales popped up on our local OneDrive folder. We can also easily add documents and files to our OneDrive account. For example, within the Wedding folder, I'm going to upload a few documents, and I could upload either files or folders. I'm going to select files. And these will be files that I am going to upload from the local system. I'm going to select my desktop location, Wedding Package, and the three files. I could have selected the entire folder if I wanted to do so. And you'll notice that I have an error here, and this is something I do want to point out. The error is OneDrive can't upload empty files or folders, please try again. The instructions for Printer document is an empty document and that is why it was unable to be uploaded. Something to keep in mind. As we can see in our example, all the files and folders are being synced. You may not want this. You can control what files and folders are being synced between OneDrive and your local system. To do so, within OneDrive in Office 365 select sync, I am prompted to open the local OneDrive client and as you can see, everything is set to sync. To modify this, unselect what you want synced between the two locations. I'm going to uncheck Files not in a folder and Marketing. We'll start the sync and you'll notice that all those files now go away. Finally, the last thing I'd like to show you is how we can easily share files and folders from OneDrive. I'm going back to my regular file structure and we're going to share the Wedding folder. Simply select it and then select share. I always like to check the link settings. As this is an internal folder, I am only going to allow people within Landon Hotel access to this folder. And I don't want them editing anything. Now, add the names of the people that you'd like to send this link to. I'm going to select Harold and I'm going to send him the link. Leveraging OneDrive ensures your local files are backed-up and always available.
