- [Instructor] Hi, I'm Gabriel Corbett, and welcome to Learn Onshape: The Basics. Onshape is an exciting new CAD software that's based completely in the Cloud. It runs in any standard web browser like Firefox, Chrome, Safari or Internet Explorer, and provides powerful CAD tools without any installed software or files. Additionally, you can download the apps for both Apple phones and tablets, as well as Android devices. But what makes it really cool is the ability to collaborate online with other users and vendors. The software keeps track of multiple versions, revisions and changes, so you can focus on design, not document management. And finally, the really great thing is the cost. You can sign up for an account for free and start learning today. This course is designed to get up to speed fast using the software. We will cover the workflow, modeling tools, assembly techniques, and do all this while working on real parts. We'll start by introducing the environment and then jump into a parts studio and learn the basic sketch tools that will become the foundation for 3D objects. Next, we'll create 3D solids by extruding or evolving sketches into 3D parts. We will then modify the design using fillets, chamfers, and adding in holes. Onshape has a huge arsenal of great CAD tools that are similar to many other CAD systems, but they've really thought through the design process and refined the steps involved to design smarter. Not only will we be introducing the basic tools, but we're going to be putting them to work building all the components for a skateboard. We'll design the wheels, trucks, deck, and hardware as we progress though this course. We will then cover the best practice for putting the parts together into assemblies and sub-assemblies. Finally, we'll see how to create drawings to relate final parts and assemblies to a manufacturer, complete with dimensions, notes, and revision information.
