Painting from life. Ooh, this is where it can get a bit scary for some folks. Now we're not making things up as an abstraction, and what's in your mind's eye. No, now we're interpreting reality. Something out in the world. So, why so disconcerting? Well, now we can compare our results with what is directly in front of us. Proportion becomes particularly important. If the proportions in our rendering are off, we can see the distortions compared to reality. Notice that I said we are interpreting reality, not duplicating reality. If all you want is an exact copy of what's before you, then take a photo and be done with it. Remember, we are using digital painting to express ourselves. Expression includes the way we view the objective world, distortions and all. If your current level of drawing includes the inaccuracies of proportion, don't be discouraged.
