- [Instructor] One of the main I like to isolate image elements on separate layers, is the result in freedom it allows, rather worrying about the potential from messing up a piece of art. I like to focus on elements individually and give it my off for each element. The result is a stronger outcome. We'll do this now by keeping the color component of the illustration on a separate layer. Let the underpainting begin. We've now got our completed illustration and I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to paint, the colors underneath of it. And we're going to do this in a couple ways here. First of all, I'm going to turn off the canvas, so I'm only seeing the illustration and to get my colors, I'm going to use the reference image here, to go in here and just get the original source image and I'm going to open this up a little bit, zoom in.
