Separating brush work from color and composition

When painting traditionally, an artist is simultaneously juggling several conceptual balls in the air at once. First, there is the composition. Even if it is a basic pencil sketch that has been drawn on the canvas, there are still many times when it needs to be adjusted during the painting process.
