In the short history of digital painting apps, a key trend has been the emulation of traditional art media. After all, in terms of the general public's perception of painting, qualities like brush strokes, canvas texture, runs and drips, in pastel and the like, are all expected hallmarks. If emulation of traditional media was digital paint's only trick, however. Well, you could accomplish the same thing with a real pencil and paper at far less expense. But there's another side to digital painting. One that I describe as through the looking glass. Just because digital painting apps can emulate traditional media, doesn't mean that's all they can do.
