- [Instructor] The marquis feature of Painter 2019, is undoubtedly its redesigned user interface. The most obvious facet of the new UI, is the dark theme, which you see here. Mirroring other Pro applications, this subdued interface keeps the focus on the artwork. If you are not a fan of dark UIs, not to worry, there are choices, including the former pre-2019 default theme. We'll take an in-depth look at the new user interface in chapter two. Along with this, you have things like enhanced performance. This includes enhanced support for multi-core processors, and CPUs that use the AVX2 extensions. Also, extensive code revisions have been done. So, Painter is fast, fast, fast. You also have improved multi-touch for Windows. This enables you to take advantage of a more intuitive way to simultaneously pan, zoom, and smoothly rotate your canvas using two fingers on a Windows touch device. To reset your painting view, simply double-tap with two fingers. In terms of color workflow, there's a new pinned Color Wheel, and I'll show it to you here. And, once it's up here, you can move this around, you can resize it, for example. But what this does, is it eliminates the need to always have this open. That's how I find it useful. And, you can just pin it up, and use it, and then go on and paint, and make color selections. So, that's nice that you've now got this ability to keep this on-screen at all time. And, it clears up having to have this stack over here opened all the time to access the color pallette. There's also now what's called the Enhanced Brush Ghost. And, you'll see here, if I click and draw, see how it changes to that cursor? That enables you to do a couple things. One, the brush ghost gets out of the way while you're drawing. And the other thing it does, which doesn't necessarily concern us directly, but indirectly, by not having to display the Brush Ghost while drawing. That's actually a way to improve performance on-screen while you're painting. And, you can also change that to other icons, and I'll be showing you that later on when we're going through the preferences. There's also a new drag to zoom functionality, so, if I hold down the spacebar and cmd or ctrl key, and click and drag, I can interactively zoom to any level that I want to. There are a number of new brushes and patterns in here. And if you want to see the patterns, you can go up to the search box up here and just type in 2019. Hit return, and this will give you a list of all of the new brushes, I think there's 32 is what I read that they have. So you can check out all the new brushes by putting 2019 into the search box and check em' out that way. The other one I want to show you is there is a whole new brush category called Stamps. And we'll go down here to Stamps. And it gives you a number of different kinds of individual graphics that you can stamp on screen. So here we have the Atomic symbol. Some of these are, I don't necessarily find them useful. I think it's more, you want to show this off so you definitely want to have some examples. But in one of the poster projects we're going to be doing, we actually have a monarch brush which I've already included in here. So this let's me draw with a brush that has a monarch as a pattern. And I've even set this one up so it's random and can be used to just kind of create a random placement of this particular stamp. Painter 2019 emphasizes usability and performance. This may not illicit fireworks, but it goes a long way towards making navigating Painters extensive interface, less exhausting.
