Getting an overall picture of what makes Coney Island

- I wanted to get a scene-setter image for this Coney Island story. I think the tendency often for photographers when they want to set the scene is they want to get everything in. In my opinion, sometimes less is more. In this instance, to try and capture all of Coney Island in one shot to set the scene is a little bit difficult. There really weren't any great high-angles to find. So, I really just wanted something that said "Coney Island" and, for me, the Wonder Wheel that you see in the background really does tell the story of where we are. I stood back with my 35 and I took the scene-setting image from here. I framed it with the light standard which normally I find gets in the way. I think in this instance was a nice compositional element. Then I found my composition, I gave myself some depth of field, I wanted depth. Even though you can see down to the boardwalk here, if you look at this picture, with a lot of depth of field, there's going to be a lot of detail. To finish it off I…
