Welcome to Street Photography

(upbeat music) (car beeps) (upbeat music) - [Voiceover] Hey, everyone, my name is Steve Simon. I've been a passionate street photographer my entire life, and I'm very excited to take you out with me and my camera on the streets of New York City, arguably one of the best cities to photograph on the street. New York, there's just everything going on all the time. There's so much theater in the street, and we're there to capture it. I'm gonna tell you how to do it. I'm gonna tell you how to overcome your fears 'cause I know it can be a little intimidating to get out and immerse yourself into the thick of what's going on in the streets. I'm gonna help you with the technical aspects of street photography. You got to be able to respond very quickly to get the shot, and there are ways that you can configure your camera to really maximize your speed on the streets. There's so much going on in the streets of New York City. I'm gonna take you into a variety of different situations form fast-moving to a little bit slower to more difficult situations where you really have to be kinda quiet and reverent as you're walking the streets, not to intrude. This course is really about observing, about being a fly on the wall, not necessarily engaging with the people but really capturing uninterrupted the life that you see around you. I'm gonna really encourage you to explore your own curiosity. Whatever it is that you find interesting in the street, that's gonna lead you to stronger pictures. Forget about what you think street photographery is supposed to be. The more personal you make it, the more strong your images are gonna be. With so much going on in this crazy city, I don't want to waste another moment, so let's follow our cameras, and let's hit the streets and start shooting.
