How light impacts the understanding of an image

- For our critiques, when it comes to light, here are a few questions to ask yourself about an image. Is the light appropriate or relevant, enhancing and strengthening the photograph, or is poor inappropriate light hurting an image? Where's light coming from and how is it distributed? Would a different lighting work better? Harsh light from below can give a very different take than softer light from above. Fill flash can soften harsh light and help tell a different story. Regardless, having nice light that works can add an extra star to an already strong composition. Well, light, there you go. This picture is probably about light. It's a reflection in a building with the water tower. It really is kind of a graphic image, but probably the main subject here is lights and what the light is doing to the reflection in the building. And light is often what I'm looking for as a photographer, and even though I'm more of a reality-based street photographer, I often start where the light is…
