Picking a subject for a photo story

- The most important decision you're going to make when starting a photo project is actually deciding what the subject matter of your photo story is. If it's a work assignment, it will be up to the editor or client. So I'm going to speak more about for a personal project. If you're going to do a personal photo essay or a photo story, the first thing you're going to have to do is decide what is it you're going to take a picture of. Where are you going to stand when you hit the shutter button? And sometimes if you've never done this before, that might be the most intimidating part. What I recommend is starting close to home. Pick a subject matter you already have access to. And it can be as simple as following your pet around for a day, or photographing one of your children's activities, or maybe what your neighbor's doing.
