Telling a story is not about the gear

- Before we get into the fundamentals of planning and executing a photo story, I just want to make a quick note about camera gear. As photographers we all love the coolest, newest camera. There's amazing technology out right now, especially dealing with low light. There's cameras that can photograph in low light that 10 years ago didn't even exist. It's an amazing time to be a photographer. That said, photographers have a tendency to get stuck up on their camera gear and let it almost get in the way of actually getting out of the house and taking the pictures. Some of the best photo stories being told right now are being told on camera phones. People are using their iPhones to document their families. There's also professional photographers that are using iPhones to do important quality photo stories, so I'm just urging you guys out there to not get hung up on the camera equipment, but instead focus that energy on determining what stories matter to you and what stories matter to the…
