Introduction to painting with light
- Light Painting is a technique that's often used in night photography to enhance a photograph by adding extra light in a controlled way. There's three main ways that you may use light painting in your night photos. The first would be to just kick in a little bit of extra fill light. This is typically done with a flashlight and you just paint your light over the scene. Ideally, you want to do this in a really subtle way. You don't want to draw attention to the light painting. You want to make it look as natural as possible. The other way you might use a flashlight is to do creative light painting. And by creative light painting, I mean light painting that is almost a special effect in and of itself. With creative light painting, you are drawing attention to the light painting. You don't care if it's obvious that you've painted the scene with light. Creative light painting is often done by putting colored gels over the front of the flashlight and it can create some really interesting…
