Using long exposures to blur motion
- We made a quick stop on our drive home because we found this cool opportunity along this back country road. There's a Geo-thermal power plant up there and it's putting up these great plumes of steam. And it's lit up with these, y'know, yellowy orange lights. And so this is a perfect opportunity to take advantage of a really cool aspect of night photography. The fact that fast-moving subject matter, such as the plumes of steam rising from that Geo-thermal power plant, will be rendered as this really interesting blur when shot with a longer exposure time. Plus, since they're backlit by the orangey yellow lights it's gonna color that plume of steam and make it look really, really interesting. Additionally, we've got a cool set-up here with a lot of good perspective elements and leading lines. We have the road going off in the distance. We have the electrical power poles on either side leading back and they're gonna be back-lit. So this is just a lot of really cool elements for this…
