Working with a backlit scene

One of the challenges of working with natural and available light is that the light might not always be exactly what you want it to be. Sometimes, you may notice that the light is a little bit harsh. And that's definitely what I noticed as I was with Cara. We'd walk into the courtyard, the light was just too harsh, there was too much contrast in it. Yet, you can work with harsh light if you position your subjects, so that the light is coming from behind her. And when you do that, when you work with back light, you can create some fascinating photographs. Now, you have to keep in mind that these are photographs that you're going to capture that really are a sort of beyond the basics. In other words, you want to capture those images where the light is good and even and soft. You want to make sure you have those.
