Adjusting exposure compensation

- The exposure compensation command is very useful and very powerful. It will likely become one of your most used options. It's ideal when lighting situations throw off the camera a bit. Remember, your camera has a light meter and it can be confused when there are things like a very light or a very dark background or strong backlighting. This command is great for really controlling the tone of your photographs. It allows you to quickly adjust in fractional or whole stop increments. You'll typically find an exposure compensation button right on top of your camera. If it doesn't exist there, you'll find it available with a modifier or in the menus. Ideally though, you should be able to reach it without having to remove your eye from the eyepiece. Simply hold down the button and you'll see a number appear. Now, if we turn the dial, there's changes. For example, turning to the left is giving me a negative value, making the background darker. If I take that at two stops under, you see that…
