Attaching an external microphone to the camera

- While your DSLR is capable of capturing high-quality visuals, they're not known for their audio-capture ability. That's because most DSLRs just have a very small built-in microphone that's not particularly good at capturing sound. But, fortunately, there is the option to plug in an external microphone. Now the type of microphone you use may vary. In this case here, I have a lavalier microphone. This end can get clipped onto your subject. You see I'm already wearing one, in fact, and this is very popular for audio interviews. You can easily clip this onto a jacket or clothing. The other end is pretty simple, and it looks a lot like a headphone port, but if you look closely there's a few extra rings. This extra information is passed through to the camera and allows it to send audio information. Now, that works great for an interview, but maybe you want to capture audio from further away.
