Automatic panoramas

- When you have a scene before you that you wanna photograph that just seems to spread out in front of you, you might want to capture a panorama. In the context of a typical digital SLR, that would often mean a composite panorama. Using a tripod with a camera mounted on that tripod, and capturing a series of images across the scene, and then you need to assemble those photos after the capture in the computer. But in many cases, you may find there is an easier way. A variety of point-and-shoot cameras, and in fact most smartphones, enable you to capture a panoramic image as a panorama, just by scanning across the scene. So here I'm using an iPhone, for example. I can switch the camera to panorama mode, and then essentially just scan across the scene. I'll switch the direction that I'm panning, here, start capturing an image, and then I can just pan carefully, keeping the camera nice and level with the reference arrow there, and then tapping the shutter release button essentially once…
