Backdrop vs. available

- When you're making a headshot of somebody, the person is the most important thing in the photograph. And so, I don't want you to dwell on backdrops. However, the backdrop's purpose is to help your person look good and help us focus on that person in the photograph. You need a backdrop that's not too busy. You need a backdrop that's complementary, and you might want to buy a backdrop. You can purchase backdrops that are different colors. You can purchase backdrops with patterns. You can also simply use an area that is nearby. Using an environmental backdrop is a really good way to put a person in their environment and show them in their place. You might use a hallway disappearing behind somebody. You might use a stack of books behind a lawyer. You might use the kitchen around a chef. Think of that as a good backdrop, but still remember that it needs to complement your subject and not distract from them. So, some things to look for are highlights in the background. Especially if…
