Bigger is better

- When we're talking about flattering portrait light, bigger is better. A bigger light is a softer light, and a smaller light is a harder light. Let me show you what I mean. Check out Cameron right here. Cameron will you turn and look at the base of this light over here? This is that LED light we've got shining on him. And you can do something similar to this with a simple work lamp that you pick up at the home improvement store. And that's actually a really good light to use, as long as we modify it to make it appear bigger on our subjects and much more flattering. As you look right now like if I hold up my finger, and cast a shadow on Cameron's face, you can see exactly where the shadow of my finger starts and stops. It's got a defined edge to that shadow. See right there. You could say its got a hard line to it. That means that the light I'm shining on him is a hard light and that's because it's a very small light.
