- When you're shooting a portrait, a wide angle lens is not necessarily going to give you the most flattering result because of where you stand when you're shooting with a wide angle lens. I've got on here right now the equivalent of roughly a 28-millimeter lens when talking about 35-millimeter film, and, so, to get the framing I want, and I'm not going to show you the picture yet, but I'm framing her so she's about, I've about this much space. To get that framing, I need to stand very close. When you're standing close to someone, their features distort a little bit. What's great about wide angle lenses, (camera beeping) I'm going to go ahead and shoot a shot here, is (shutter clicking) they capture so much of background. So, when you're doing an environmental portrait, when you want to shoot someone with their environment around them, wide angle lenses are great. There's nothing wrong with doing a portrait…
