Calculating depth of field

- As photographers, one of the key creative aspects that we're able to control is depth of field. And the primary way that we control depth of field is by adjusting the lens aperture, but we also have to keep in mind that our distance to the subject has a tremendous impact in overall depth of field. And so it can be very helpful to calculate depth of field in various situations. Even if you're not too concerned about the specific depth of field, it can be helpful to calculate depth of field periodically so that you'll get a better understanding of how different factors affect depth of field. For example, let's assume that I'm using this camera and lens. This is a 35 millimeter prime lens. And I'm going to capture a relatively wide angle landscape shot, and I want as much depth of field as possible. But I have a foreground subject that I want to have in focus as well, that's about five feet away. So one of the…
